Two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela less than a minute apart on June 25, 2026. At least 188 people died, more than 1,500 were injured, and 250 buildings collapsed or were severely damaged. In Caracas, firefighters were digging through the rubble when they found something no one expected.
A terrified puppy, alive, trapped beneath the remains of a collapsed building. In the rescue video, it can be seen clinging to the vest of a firefighter from the Caracas Fire Department while another offers it water. The animal was in shock, but it was breathing.
The puppy remained in the care of the rescuers. Its owners did not appear — their whereabouts are unknown. In the midst of a tragedy that prompted a national state of emergency and turned the state of La Guaira into a disaster zone, that puppy clinging to the one who saved it became the hardest image to forget. 🐾
