At 21, Megan Dixon has made a decision few could imagine: amputating her legs to regain her freedom. Since she was 14, this young British woman has been unable to walk due to a strange neurological disorder that left her limbs completely rigid.

The pain became so unbearable that even under anesthesia doctors were unable to bend her knees. “I could feel my bones cracking, but they told me the pain was only in my head”, Megan says about the years when her condition baffled specialists.

After spending time in a coma and temporarily losing her speech, her reality worsened when her legs began to bend backward at a 45-degree angle. After years of struggle, in August 2026 she will undergo the definitive surgery.

Now, Megan is raising funds for a power wheelchair with a very simple dream: “I want to go to the zoo with my partner and hold their hand, instead of depending on a caregiver”. Her bravery is a reminder that, sometimes, letting go is the only way to start over.
