The massacre that claimed the life of musician Jonathan Meléndez of Camilo Séptimo, Jonathan Meléndez, his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter, and a young domestic worker initially left only one known survivor: the couple’s 6-year-old son, who managed to hide during the attack.
But now a new detail that had remained hidden has emerged.
The family confirmed that Mila, one of the two little dogs that were in the apartment that afternoon, also survived. In the days following the crime, reports began circulating that the animal had escaped from the scene and was missing.
The State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office had already confirmed that two pets were inside the penthouse when the attack occurred. One of them, a golden retriever named Nhala, was found dead alongside the victims.
The uncertainty came to an end when Roberto Barragán, Ana Paula’s uncle, confirmed that Mila was with the family and later revealed that she was already with the 6-year-old boy who survived the massacre.
The boy had been found unharmed by authorities after remaining hidden while the crime was taking place.
Now, as the Prosecutor’s Office continues investigating the murder of Jonathan Meléndez and his family and two suspects remain detained, Mila has unexpectedly become another survivor of a tragedy that left a family virtually destroyed.
