At 24, Katie Piper survived an acid attack that caused severe burns and left her blind in one eye. The attack was organized by her then-partner, Daniel Lynch, who hired another man to throw acid in her face in March 2008. Lynch was sentenced to life in prison.

Her recovery involved more than 200 operations and numerous reconstructive treatments. For years, she had to adapt to the physical and emotional effects of her injuries, and her medical care continues to this day.
A year after the attack, she founded the Katie Piper Foundation to support burn survivors and people with traumatic scars through rehabilitation, specialist care, and support to regain their independence and confidence.

She went on to build a career as a presenter, author, and activist. She has worked in television, written several books, and continues to speak publicly about visible scars, self-esteem, and recovery after trauma.

Her personal life also took a new direction. Katie is married to Richard James Sutton, with whom she has two daughters. In recent interviews, she has spoken about him as a very involved father and about how they raise their girls together.

Today, Katie Piper is 42 and continues to combine her television work with her activism and the work of her foundation. Although her appearance changed radically after the attack, she has built a family and professional life very different from the one she had when it all happened.
