On August 10, 2026, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake shook Colombia. In Chocó, nearly 40 schools completely collapsed. Hundreds more were damaged.
Shakira arrived in Quibdó without warning. It wasn’t a photo op or a message from afar. She announced that she would rebuild the Technological University of Chocó and ten more schools, the same hallways where children who resemble the girl she once was study today.
She is concerned about one specific thing: that once the emergency passes, the schools will be forgotten, like ruins no one ever looks at again.
By the age of 18, she had already founded Pies Descalzos, her way of giving back what life had not made easy for her.
The girl who was told she had no voice for singing now uses that same voice to ensure other children are not left without a classroom.
