Missy had been at the Bideawee shelter for a month when Bryan Reisberg decided to take her out to explore New York. He carried her in a backpack, as he did with other dogs from the shelter, so they could get out, meet people, and have a chance to find a family.
But something happened with Missy that Bryan had never seen before.
During that walk, the one-year-old dog stopped at a Starbucks and met Steve Wruble there. He had gone about 14 years without a dog, but something about Missy made it impossible for him to stop thinking about her all day. That same night, he decided to adopt her.

Reisberg had already taken more than 60 dogs for walks around the city, but none had found a home so quickly. Three days later, Steve came back for her.
As he petted her, Missy wagged her tail, and he could barely hold back his tears. She was no longer Missy: from that day on, her name would be Misty.
““We’re going home,”” he told her.
And so, thanks to a walk intended to help her find a home, a little dog who had been waiting for a month found her forever family in the most unexpected place: a Starbucks.
