Every year, graduates of the Royal Canadian Navy’s military diving course pose for their official photograph completely submerged, aligned as if they were standing on solid ground. There is no editing trick: it is the culmination of one of the toughest training programs in the Canadian military, where breath control, calm under pressure, and group coordination are trained for months.
Maintaining that exact position, without floating or drifting, while a photographer captures the entire team at once requires the same mastery of their bodies that they will need on real missions underwater. The tradition is repeated generation after generation as a symbol of the pride that comes from having survived the course.
