They tried to execute Christa Pike, it failed, and now the same state is trying to save her… What comes next?

Tennessee strapped her to a gurney to execute her and ended up calling doctors so she wouldn’t die.

Christa Pike, 49, the state’s only woman on death row, received two doses of lethal injection on Wednesday, September 30, at Riverbend prison in Nashville.

According to witnesses, she was still breathing and “snoring” when everything stopped. The execution order expired at midnight, and she was taken to a hospital, which WSMV reports is Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Pike was convicted of the murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer in 1995, and the victim’s mother called the botched execution “a disaster”.

For some, justice must be carried out to the end. For others, a second attempt would be inhumane.

Can an execution that has already failed be attempted again?
