Aeron McQuillin was 18, Bailey Campbell 17, and Billy Tarbett just 15.
They were neighbors in Fonthill, Ontario, and that early morning in July 2019, they were coming back from swimming, still in their swimsuits, heading to a Tim Hortons. Around 1 a.m., they saw a smoking Chevrolet Cobalt on the highway. Its owner had bought it six weeks earlier, needed a new engine, and couldn’t afford a tow truck.
Then Billy asked the question that changed everything: “Are you ready to push?”
And they pushed. For about two and a half hours, facing a hill that nearly defeated them and a dead battery halfway there, they covered nearly 7 km while Dan Morrison followed behind with his hazard lights on. They left the car in front of the woman’s house at 4 a.m. When asked why they did it, Billy replied: “We had nothing else to do and really wanted to help her”.
