The first involved a 27-year-old woman who spent six months suffering from persistent cough, fever, and sputum production. She even received antibiotics and tuberculosis treatment, but she never improved.
After performing a bronchoscopy, doctors discovered the real cause: she had accidentally inhaled a condom during oral sex, which remained lodged in the bronchus of her right lung. After it was removed, the patient made a full recovery.
The second case involved a 26-year-old woman who arrived at the hospital with severe abdominal pain consistent with appendicitis. During surgery, doctors found a fragment of a condom trapped inside the appendix.
Later, the patient explained that she had accidentally swallowed it during oral sex two weeks before the onset of symptoms. Specialists concluded that the rest of the condom was expelled naturally, but a small fragment remained lodged in the appendix and triggered the inflammation.
Although both episodes are extremely rare, doctors used the publication of the cases to remind people that, in the event of this type of accident or persistent symptoms, it is advisable to quickly seek medical care.
