Billy Caldwell was 12 years old, and doctors had already placed him in palliative care. He suffered up to 800 seizures a day, could not stand on his own, and was fed through a tube.

His mother, Charlotte, refused to accept that verdict: she traveled to Canada and obtained cannabis oil that restored stability to her son.

In 2018, the UK’s Border Force confiscated his medication at Heathrow Airport in London.

Billy began having seizures again and ended up in the hospital.

The case became so significant that the Home Office itself had to return his treatment on the grounds of a ‘medical emergency’, and months later the country reclassified medical cannabis, allowing specialists to prescribe it legally.
