Anthony Shurigin is 24 years old, lives in New York, and is afraid of colors. It’s a real fear that can even make him panic.
It’s called chromophobia and, he said, it began in childhood. Even a tiny amount of blue, pink, green, or red is enough to make him feel unwell. That’s why his world is white, black, and with the occasional touch of gray: white bedding, white furniture, black-and-white Polaroid photos, and pure white LED lighting. All his clothes are white or black, and even his parents dress that way when they’re with him.

His room went viral on social media. To prove he didn’t use filters, he even showed an orange Louis Vuitton box and a red Cartier one. His story reached so far that the British TV program This Morning was broadcast in black and white for the first time to interview him; he joined by video call from his bedroom.
As he explained, black and white have a uniformity and consistency that he finds less overwhelming than a room full of colors. He sees no reason to reintroduce color into his life and dreams of having a completely monochromatic house someday.
