Wang Yanfang is 60 years old and has a routine few would understand: waking up every dawn, at 4AM, to feed more than 1,300 stray dogs that no one else wanted.
It is not her job. No one pays her for this. She has been doing it for five years, alongside a group of women who decided to build an improvised shelter in China for animals that people abandoned on the street. Rain, cold, or New Year’s Eve do not matter: they are there every morning, with the food ready.
When asked why she does it, Wang’s answer is simple and honest: she says those dogs are like her children, and that she could not bear to be separated from them or lose them. Sometimes the greatest love does not seek recognition; it simply wakes up early and keeps showing up, day after day.
