A serious eye infection caused by the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa, commonly found in contaminated environments, can destroy the eye in a matter of days if left untreated.

The disease causes extreme inflammation, buildup of pus inside the eye, heavy discharge, intense pain, and even the eyeball protruding due to internal pressure.

In the most severe cases, doctors must inject antibiotics directly into the eye, use intravenous medications, and perform surgery to remove infected tissue and prevent total vision loss. Although some patients partially recover, this type of infection can leave permanent damage even after treatment.
