It now makes much more sense why they keep telling you “not to move” during these exams 😳.
The image shows what happens when a person sneezes right while their body is being scanned. These machines capture multiple images or “slices” in a very short time and then combine them to reconstruct a detailed representation of the inside of the body.
The problem arises when the patient moves in the middle of the scan. Since some images are recorded in slightly different positions, distortions known as motion artifacts can appear when they are combined.
In this case, the sneeze caused different parts of the body to appear displaced and superimposed, creating that figure that looks like it came straight out of a horror movie.
It’s not that the scanner saw something paranormal: it simply captured the worst possible second to sneeze.
