Alan Knight had the perfect plan. 🎭
In 2011, he was arrested for stealing more than $64,000 from the bank account of an elderly neighbor with Alzheimer’s in Swansea, Wales.
To avoid trial, he decided to become the best actor of his life: he claimed he was quadriplegic and suffered coma episodes whenever a court hearing approached. With the help of his wife Helen, he even admitted himself to a hospital while faking seizures.
For two years, the trick worked. But the police had a simple idea: track his supermarket loyalty card. Security cameras showed him walking, shopping, and driving completely normally, as if the coma were just a day off.
When he arrived at Swansea Crown Court in a wheelchair and wearing a cervical collar, there was no way to keep the act going.
Judge Paul Thomas called him ‘a very skilled actor,’ and Knight ended up pleading guilty to 19 charges. He was then given an additional 14 months for obstructing justice, and his wife received 10 months in prison. 🛒⚖️
