This photo of a lonely urban bridge, with a solitary figure on the shore and signs that lead nowhere clear, sparked a theory that went viral all over the internet: there is a type of place in almost every city in the world that people recognize immediately, even though they’ve never been there. Transition zones, spaces that exist between destinations, those corners you pass through but never inhabit. They’re not famous, they don’t appear on tourist maps, but when you see them in a photo… something in your head says “I know that place” 🌆
