Kayla Hayes, a young woman from South Carolina, United States, recounted the hell she went through after her ex-boyfriend, Seth Fleury, bit off part of her lower lip when she refused to kiss him after ending the relationship in October 2017.

The attack occurred in Simpsonville and left her with permanent injuries, more than 300 stitches, and several reconstructive surgeries. According to the victim, the man wanted to “leave his mark” so that no one else would kiss her.

In 2018, Fleury was sentenced to 12 years in prison for aggravated assault. Since then, Hayes has used her story to raise awareness about domestic violence and support other victims.
