The couple, who lived in London, became trapped by such powerful hydraulic suction that they could not even free each other. The scratches found on their bodies, according to the Civil Guard’s initial findings, were not the result of an attack: they were caused by their desperate attempts to save each other.
Preliminary analyses indicate that panic and physical exertion caused them to suffer cardiac arrest before anyone could help them. Hot tub experts are already working alongside Spanish investigators to determine exactly what went wrong with the equipment. Relatives of the children, who were described as deeply traumatized, traveled from the United Kingdom as soon as they learned what had happened.
