Dermatologist Mercy Odueyungbo, who treats rare skin conditions, quickly grasped what she was facing: the doctor herself described it as one of the most difficult cases she had ever treated.

Ashley lives with neurofibromatosis, a condition that causes tumors to grow on the nerves and skin. In her case, there were so many lesions that every everyday movement became an effort.

The doctor was honest from the start: she couldn’t cure the disease. What she could do was remove some of the lesions and help Ashley regain some of her well-being.

Her story was featured in the first episode of “Dr. Mercy”, the series in which the doctor treats highly complex skin conditions. For Ashley, the treatment meant much more than a physical change: it was a chance to look at herself in the mirror differently.
