Three friends in China pushed their car instead of driving drunk and still ended up being penalized

Three friends somewhere in China went out drinking and, when it was time to head back, came up with a calculation that seemed perfect to them: if no one drove the car, then technically no one was driving drunk. So two of them pushed the vehicle while the third stood outside steering the wheel, as if they were mechanics pushing a stalled car and not three people trying to dodge the law.

The plan had an almost endearing logic, the kind that only occurs to you after several drinks. But the police saw no sweetness in it: they reviewed footage from the area’s security cameras and confirmed that, pushed or not, that car was still being operated by people in a state of intoxication. Traffic regulations do not distinguish between an accelerator and a shove.

The video quickly went viral, half laughter and half astonishment at the trio’s failed ingenuity. And it left a question making the rounds on social media: how far does creativity go when it comes to dodging a rule, and since when does not knowing how to interpret it spare you from a penalty?
