“I threw out all the junk food in the house and bought juices, fruit, and other things to give my body energy”

Nate Smith couldn’t stand bending down to tie his shoes without getting dizzy.

It was 2024, and the singer from “Bulletproof” had been struggling with his body for years, until a severe respiratory infection forced him to stop. “He knew he needed to eat healthy, or he wasn’t going to get better”, he told PEOPLE.

He emptied the kitchen of junk food, filled it with fruit and juices, and with the help of his brother Kyle — who had already lost nearly 36 kilos and now runs a fitness account with more than 2 million followers — put together a simple plan: 2.100 calories a day and 200 grams of protein.  No extreme diets.

He swapped regular Gatorade for Zero, ditched the burger buns, and replaced his Starbucks mocha with an Americano. Before music, he worked as a nursing assistant for more than a decade, lifting patients every day until he injured his back with herniated discs, so losing weight also gave him back the mobility he needed for his shows.

Today he weighs around 205 pounds and his goal is to reach 185. He says he hates running, that his real workout is the stage, where he ends up drenched in sweat every night, and that if one day he wants macaroni and cheese, he eats it without guilt. It’s just no longer a habit; it’s an exception.
