Toby was two years old and had two noses when the world decided that made him invisible.
He was found wandering alone through the streets of Fresno, California, and taken to a shelter where no one asked about him.
His unusual appearance —a snout split in two, as if nature had hesitated between two designs— kept him off the adoption lists.
The shelter had already set a date to euthanize him when the NorCal Aussie Rescue organization intervened and gave him a little more time.
That time was enough. Todd Ray, a music producer and founder of the Venice Beach Freakshow, learned his story and didn’t hesitate. He went for him before it was too late and took him home.
Today Toby plays fetch, curls up on the sofa and, according to Ray, has the sharpest sense of smell he has ever seen in a dog.
He simply calls him ‘the sweetest on Earth.’ Sometimes what makes you different is exactly what someone else was looking for.
