In a new interview with GQ, Cruise confirmed something that Glen Powell had already revealed in 2024: during the filming of “Top Gun: Maverick” in Los Angeles, he sat him down alone, with no one else, in an empty theater, and made him watch a 6-hour video in which he himself explains everything he knows about lenses, framing, and cinematic storytelling. Six hours, with no escape and no one to ask for help.
Cruise insists that the content is “very basic” and that he only shows it to his friends, with no plans to make it public. But Powell, a star with the kind of schedule only actors at the top of Hollywood have, had to find 6 free hours for the final exam at Cruise University. And apparently, he passed: they are now close friends.
