Jeri Giles is 91 years old and uses a walker.
Ocean is 14 months old and is learning to walk. Since December, when she took her first steps, the little girl has discovered that everything is easier beside her great-grandfather. Today she can walk on her own, but if Jeri goes out with his walker, she positions herself beside him and moves at his pace.
Her mother, Brianna Dukz, filmed the scene, which lasts just 14 seconds, in San Diego, and it reached 3 million views on TikTok.
For Jeri, meeting Ocean was already a gift he hadn’t expected. “My grandfather never thought he would live long enough to meet her”, Brianna said. Now the little girl dances in front of him, steals his food, plays with the dogs, and they go out for walks all the time.
There’s something else Brianna can’t help noticing: her own first steps were in front of that same grandfather’s sofa, in a corner almost identical to the one in the video. Decades later, the story is repeating itself with another generation.
That’s why she records every moment. So Ocean can someday see what she still won’t be able to remember.
