Rachelle Escabarte, a 28-year-old Australian woman, traveled unexpectedly to New Zealand to visit her best friend. She had barely arrived at the place where she was staying when she decided to help by moving a motorcycle into a shed before nightfall.

She already had experience riding motorcycles, but this one was far more powerful than she imagined. In the darkness, she failed to see a 1,5-meter retaining wall and accelerated straight into the void. The 90-kilo motorcycle was launched and ended up falling onto her body and face with devastating force. She suffered a  brain hemorrhage, spinal fractures, a collapsed lung, and her face was completely destroyed.

She has already undergone four surgeries and still faces a recovery that could take more than a year.
