A trans comedian sparked major controversy after making a joke about his transition while referencing the case of Gabriela Nicole Pratts, a young woman whose death shocked Puerto Rico.
During a performance, the comedian said that his friend was no longer replying to his messages to go out partying with him, and then compared it to Gabriela in the middle of the routine. The moment sparked outrage among many people, who felt that a line had been crossed by using such a sensitive case as part of a comedy show.
Gabriela’s mother reacted publicly with a message filled with pain, in which she expressed that her daughter “is not content or comedy”, and asked for respect for her memory and her family.
