Ian Rubey is 35 years old and has a beard that, according to him, put him at risk every time he breastfed.

He is a trans man, has lived in Puerto Madryn since he was 18, and has never had a mastectomy. In 2021, while still single, he began fertility treatment with a sperm donor. At the first ultrasound, he found out that there were two babies on the way. Five months into the pregnancy, he met Patricia, who ended up becoming the mother of the twins, Manuel Amaranto and Yanay Almendra.

The first attempts at breastfeeding were a silent failure: he couldn’t find the right position, became frustrated, and asked the hospital’s Breastfeeding Committee for help. When he finally managed to do it, he only dared to breastfeed within the four walls of his home. ““I felt a very deep and justified fear of breastfeeding them in public,”” he said. What no one expected was that Patricia, without having carried the pregnancy, also began producing milk purely because of oxytocin and ended up breastfeeding the twins alongside him.
