Rose Inessa-Ethington (born under the name Eric Ethington) told her son’s mother that they were going to a camp in Calgary, but they never arrived.
This 42-year-old transgender woman from Cache County, Utah, is the biological father of a 10-year-old boy whose custody she shares with her ex-partner.
Along with her partner Blue Inessa-Ethington, 32, she first flew to Mexico City and then to Havana, while the child’s mother waited in vain in Canada.
At her home, the FBI found lists with tasks such as “learn Spanish” and “empty bank account”, as well as instructions from a therapist in Washington D.C. about gender-affirming care for minors and the transfer of 10,000 dollars.
A Utah judge had already ordered the child to be returned “immediately” and granted the mother sole custody. None of that stopped them.
The Department of Justice ended up sending a government plane to repatriate the child, who this week returned to his mother’s arms in Utah.
Rose and Blue face federal charges of international parental kidnapping.
