A 34-year-old man from Vinh Long Province in southern Vietnam arrived at Vinh Long General Hospital on June 9 with a plastic bottle 20 centimeters long and 5 in diameter lodged in his rectum, presumably while he was cleaning himself. Dr. Tran Nhat Phi led the team that operated on him in an emergency and managed to remove the object without finding any perforations or major damage.

The patient is recovering with stable vital signs and remains under observation. The doctor himself explained why these things happen: objects without a widened base can become trapped by the rectum’s natural contractions, something he said is not as uncommon as it may seem in clinical practice.
