Truffles was his caregiver Jake’s first rescue, more than 8 years ago.
His breed was created to grow fast and large, so arthritis and mobility problems were always present. He learned to manage it well, until something changed last winter: his hind legs began to fail him, and there came a point when he could not get up even with help.
He was sedated for a full scan, hoping to find something treatable. There was nothing in his hooves or hocks. The problem was in his spine, which had begun to fuse on its own, a condition that had no cure, only management with medication.
Truffles left this world on October 25, 2025, 5 weeks after the diagnosis, but to this day Jake remembers him with deep love, because all animals deserve a good life and Truffles enjoyed life to the fullest while he was in this world.
