Travan and Travis Jasper were 12 years old when they made a promise to each other in a hospital hallway.

Their uncle was hospitalized with liver failure, and they, frightened, were looking for answers. The doctor treating him coldly refused to give them any: according to the twins, he told them the man was getting what he deserved. The twins looked at each other and decided that one day they would become doctors who could treat patients and their families with compassion.

They had a hard life. Their home in Richmond, Virginia, had no running water, and they had to go get it from nearby parks. Sometimes there wasn’t enough food, either. But they supported each other, graduated at the top of their high school class, and went on to Stanford. They later studied medicine at the University of Chicago.

In April 2026, they returned home: today, they are co-directors of the emergency department at Chippenham Hospital, in the same city where they went hungry. Because they are identical, they wear different-colored uniforms so no one confuses them: one wears green, the other purple. 💚💜
