Two postpartum mental health cases and two opposing reactions: Hayden Panettiere was criticized for giving up custody of her daughter, while Lindsay Clancy received support despite being accused of killing her three children

Hayden Panettiere spoke publicly about the postpartum depression she suffered and was harshly criticized when she gave custody of her daughter to the father while going through a period marked by mental health and addiction problems.

The case of Lindsay Clancy was far more serious. The mother is accused of killing her three children in 2023, and her defense maintains that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis. Even so, her story also generated numerous messages of empathy (people even offered her money as a show of support), even as she faced charges over the deaths.

The comparison between the two cases has sparked debate on social media: while Panettiere was labeled a “bad mother” for distancing herself from her daughter during her recovery, Clancy has received expressions of understanding despite facing far more serious accusations.
