A Haitian man, with irregular immigration status, was left draped across a motorcycle while two agents transported him over a bridge in San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic. His legs hung down on either side, his body bent over the seat, as the vehicle moved along as if it were carrying a bundle rather than a person.

The video spread quickly, and the reaction was not long in coming. The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) confirmed that it will open an investigation into the two agents involved, considering that the way they acted failed to comply with institutional protocols.

The institution was clear: every intervention must respect people’s dignity and safety standards, without exception. What was supposed to be an immigration procedure ended up exposing something deeper: the way those with the least power to defend themselves are sometimes treated. 😔
