Tommy jumped into the hole without thinking too much. He and his friend were on their way to a swimming spot in the Bay Area, California, when some neighbors told them there was a bear trapped there. The warning that the mother might be nearby did not stop them.
The animal had no intention of cooperating: it overcame every attempt to tie it up and pull it out by force. It was only when they dragged a large log to the entrance that the bear used the stick for support and climbed out on its own paws. They named it Koda on the spot.
The celebration did not last long. When they peered inside the cave, they found skin and bones. The remains belonged to another small bear, most likely its brother. The conclusion was inevitable: Koda had survived the confinement the only way possible. The two neighbors who went to do their “good deed for the day” ended up, without knowing it, freeing a killer from his own prison. 🐻
