Zia told Yusron about it one night over the phone, as if confessing something she had carried for too long. She was 16 years old when Abah, the headmaster of her boarding school in Lombok, Indonesia, intercepted her in the school gardens.
Yusron began investigating. He found more testimonies, more names, more imposed silence. When Abah found out, he called Yusron’s home and begged him to hide “his teacher’s shame”. He didn’t know that every word was being recorded 🎙️
The recordings exposed years of abuse protected by the respect everyone had for Abah. And in the midst of that investigation, which became a shared cause, Yusron and Zia discovered something else: they supported each other so much that they ended up building a family together.
