Winder is 15 years old. Deivi, 17. They are brothers, Venezuelans, and they survived something that should not happen twice in a lifetime.
On June 24, 2026, a double earthquake measuring 7.2 and 7.5 devastated La Guaira, Venezuela, and took their mother, grandmother, and younger brother. Their father, Deivid, a barber by trade, took what remained of the family and crossed the border into Cali, Colombia, looking for a place where the ground would not open up beneath their feet again.
Not even two months had passed. On August 10, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake shook western Colombia and was felt as far away as Cali. More than 240 people died in the country that had taken them in. For the Delfíns, the tremor was not news on television: it was the same nightmare, again, in another land.
