After learning about his situation, Shaun Weiss, another former child star who had faced his own struggles with addiction and homelessness, offered to get him into treatment. His former co-star Daniel Curtis Lee also tracked him down in person, shared a meal with him, and tried to find him housing and professional help.
The efforts, however, have also shown how complex it can be to help someone experiencing vulnerability when treatment depends on that person being willing to accept it.
His case reopened an uncomfortable conversation about what happens to some children and teenagers who grew up in front of the cameras when fame disappears and adulthood begins.
