Dámaris had no job. She had two young children, a four-month-old baby and a three-and-a-half-year-old boy, and needed something flexible that would allow her to care for them while still earning an income.
In Cipolletti, Río Negro, she came up with a simple idea: offering to check children’s hair with a fine-toothed comb and remove lice and nits, either at their homes or at her own. She posted the idea on Facebook without many expectations, and the post went viral. Messages of congratulations poured in from people who celebrated her initiative.
Today she charges between 20 and 25 dollars depending on each child’s hair length. She is honest with her clients: she explains that the service does not guarantee the lice will not return, but it does solve the immediate problem. A side job born out of necessity that ended up becoming her livelihood.
