Patrick Barnett called 911 at 6:01 in the morning. He said that his wife Lindsey, 37, had slit her throat in the shower of their home in Lakewood, Colorado. He spoke of postpartum depression, a suicide attempt the previous weekend, and a woman who could no longer bear living.
Lindsey’s mother denied that account. Her daughter had never talked about taking her own life. Investigators found scratches on Barnett’s body, which he attributed to an ultimate frisbee tournament, and unexplained bruises on Lindsey’s body. When they asked him about an affair, he denied it. Later, he admitted it.
That same day, August 13, hours after the 911 call, police arrested him during a traffic stop. He now faces charges of first-degree murder, tampering with a corpse, and tampering with evidence. His two children, aged 1 and 3, were in the house when everything happened. They suffered no physical injuries.
