For years, Sophia Hadjipanteli felt that being different was a reason to be mocked. But everything changed when she decided to stop plucking her eyebrows and simply let them grow naturally. The result was a feature that quickly became her signature: a striking unibrow that eventually led her into the world of modeling and helped her amass thousands of followers.
A selfie posted on Instagram reached more than a million people, and along with the attention came hundreds of hateful comments and even death threats. Sophia, however, decided not to change her appearance to meet other people’s expectations and began speaking openly about beauty standards and the pressure to fit in.
“I like the way I am, and I don’t know why I have to do this if I don’t like it”, she explained. For her, her unibrow became a way to decide for herself how she looked and to challenge the idea that there is only one way to be beautiful.
