On Sunday, August 16, in Riverview, Florida, the boy drove the family vehicle from home to a 7-Eleven on Gordon Road. Everything was going well until it was time to brake: he mistook the accelerator pedal for the brake and the car crashed into a concrete barrier, also damaging the store building. No one was injured, but the scare was real for everyone nearby that night at 8:35 p.m.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigation uncovered something even more serious: Myers’s license had been invalid since July 13, and it was not the first time she had allowed her minor children to drive without authorization. She now faces charges of child abuse and allowing an unauthorized minor to drive a vehicle.
