Avery Garcia was 12 and had been fighting pancreatic cancer for almost eight years. 🎴
He was known as “Avery the Poke Kid”, the boy who opened Pokémon card packs in front of more than 600,000 followers on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. On September 17, he entered palliative care for the third time. The next day, at 7 p.m., he died.
Days later, his parents Christian Garcia and Rebecca Rosa-Valentin made a decision that broke their entire community: sharing the last video Avery recorded of himself opening cards, in which he smiles with his oxygen cannula in place and says goodbye as he always did.
“Our hearts ache without you”, they wrote. “We love you, handsome.” 💔
