Fourteen days of anguish, prayers, and despair passed. When rescuers finally reached them, they encountered the most heartbreaking and pure scene of maternal love ever recorded amid the tragedy.

Two weeks after the devastating earthquakes that shook Venezuela, the search for survivors among the tons of concrete and earth had the outcome no one wanted to hear, but it left a lesson in eternal love that today brings millions of mothers and fathers around the world to tears.


The child’s father, Fabio Bastardo, remained at the site closely following the rescue operation, which involved national and international teams, including emergency delegations from Spain and Portugal.
The discovery comes 20 days after the tragedy, amid the pain of families still hoping to find their loved ones and other victims whose bodies remain in the process of being identified so they can receive a dignified farewell.
