At 51, Paulina Porizkova thought she had already fulfilled her purpose in life.

She felt used, exhausted, invisible. Her nearly 30-year marriage to Ric Ocasek, lead singer of The Cars, had fallen apart in 2017, and two years later he died suddenly.

Her children no longer needed her, she had no career, and she even paid for massages just to feel another person’s touch. She thought the only thing left for her was to take up old hobbies again, perhaps start painting again.

Ten years later, at 61, the former supermodel married screenwriter Jeff Greenstein in Lake Orta, Italy, whom she had met on a dating app.

She sums it up herself: no one would have believed that she would end up falling in love with a man who taught her that love doesn’t hurt.

Reinventing yourself, she says, is always possible — but first you have to stop feeling sorry for yourself and open the door.
