In Chicago, a group of people began gathering every Sunday by Lake Michigan to do something as simple as it is strange: scream at the same time. The initiative, known as Scream Club, began after a couple sought to vent after a bad day by the water.

The activity usually begins with breathing, a countdown, and a collective scream directed toward the lake. Some gatherings have brought together more than 100 people, while other calls mention up to 300 attendees. Not everyone comes for the same reason; some carry work stress, grief, anxiety, or accumulated exhaustion.
After the scream, some remain silent, others cry, and several end up hugging strangers. It does not seem like traditional therapy or a party. Rather, it is a moment when everyone makes noise so they can go home feeling a little lighter.
