Van Gogh came into the world different from his siblings.
At Smithills Open Farm in Bolton, England, he was born without ears, the only one in his entire litter with that condition. No one really knew what to expect, but the rabbit grew up playing, racing around among the other animals and never showing any sign of distress or limitation. His caretakers then decided to give him something made just for him: a pair of crocheted ears, in shades of gray and pink, fastened with a bow under his chin.
He doesn’t wear them all day, only for short periods and always under the watchful eye of the farm team, more as a game than a real necessity. Experts explain that being born without ears can be due to genetic variations during development, and does not always imply hearing loss. Van Gogh is proof that a physical difference does not erase a full life, especially when there is a family willing to knit him, literally, a place in the world.
