💔 Yimvert Berroterán was 18 years old, had made his first-division debut in 2025, and had just represented Venezuela in the Torneo Maurice Revello. Football was his path. On June 24, 2026, two earthquakes — measuring 7.2 and 7.5 — shook northern Venezuela and brought down his residence in the Los Corales sector, La Guaira.

When rescuers arrived at the rubble, they found him alongside his girlfriend, Valentina Sandoval. Both lifeless. One account indicates that Berroterán may have held on for more than 40 hours before succumbing to his injuries, although that information was not officially confirmed by the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF), which did confirm his death on June 26.

The tragedy does not end there: six other Venezuelan footballers were still missing at the time of this report — among them Juan Manuel Pimentel Berríos, Mainell Rondón, and Fausto Escobar. The earthquakes left more than 900 dead and 3.300 injured. All of Venezuela mourns. And football, with it. 🕊️
