Iris woke up one morning in Salvador, Bahia, with a fixed idea in her head.
She had seen her classmate with a broken backpack, and she could not get it out of her mind. She asked her mother, Brenda Rodrigues, if she could give her one of hers. Brenda was recording an Instagram story when her 9-year-old daughter came to her with that request, and she did not hesitate to say yes.
At school, a classmate hugged Iris gratefully. Her friend, the owner of the broken backpack, hugged and kissed her several times, and even asked to borrow the teacher’s cell phone to record a thank-you audio message for her. It was not the first time Iris had done something like this: in April, as soon as she learned she would be given a new bicycle, she asked to donate the old one to someone who needed it.
“I felt flattered, with a sense of accomplishment. Even today, every time I watch the video, I cry”, Brenda said, summing it all up in one sentence: her daughter is growing up with a kind heart.
