Cibely was 12 years old and was returning from school with her umbrella when something stopped her in her tracks.
In a puddle of water, under the rain in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, there was an injured stray puppy, trembling. She did not hesitate. She took off her jacket right there, in the middle of the street, carefully wrapped the puppy in it, and carried her in her arms all the way home. A neighbor, Mayane Rodrigues, saw it all from her window and managed to record the exact moment when the girl decided that the puppy would not be left alone.
When Rejane, Cibely’s mother, saw what her daughter had done, she did not feel surprised but proud: in that home, love and compassion are taught by example, not through sermons. The video ended up going around the world, not because it was spectacular, but because of its simplicity: a girl who understood, without anyone having to teach her that particular day, that protecting someone weaker allows no excuses and does not depend on the weather.
